5 Reasons You Need Acupuncture with your Thanksgiving Dinner

  1. Overeating- It’s Thanksgiving. You are faced with delectable appetizers, rich creamy mashed potatoes, a juicy turkey covered in buttery gravy, followed by a selection of desserts to make your mouth water. Of course you are going to overeat! You would be surprised how many of my patients come in not feeling well after Thanksgiving break. Celebrations take a lot out of us! It’s nothing to feel guilty about - it’s just part of a joyful celebration. We eat too much, drink too much, and stay up too late. It’s all understandable, but you may need some help picking up the pieces afterwards. Acupuncture is a great way to get you back on track, clear food stagnation and help you recover.

  2. Family anxiety- We picture happy, smiling, full-bellied families when we think of Thanksgiving. For some people though, gathering with family is a source of much anxiety, worry, or trauma activation. Make sure to take some walks outside before you host or visit family and don’t forget your self-care routine that is even more necessary when faced with the chaos and busy schedule of the holidays.

  3. Over-scheduling- With so many activities, travel, friends and family members to visit, people often feel completely over-stimulated during the holidays. Make sure to take time for quiet, restful activity like hot baths and reading in front of the fireplace. Acupuncture is a great way to get back into your parasympathetic nervous system to reset you for the rest of the long weekend.

  4. Inflammation- During the holidays we tend to veer away from our low-inflammation diets and indulge more in gluten, dairy, alcohol, and sugar. This inflammation can lead to poor sleep, worsening hot flashes, digestive upset, skin problems and so much more. Acupuncture and herbs can help reduce inflammation caused by diet and strengthen your digestive system once more.

  5. Headaches- Overindulging in rich, sweet foods can cause headaches and migraines for many people. Acupuncture is extremely effective for the treatment of headaches and migraines. We do a full health analysis to find the source of your headaches and then manage your pain with acupuncture, herbs, and occasionally supplements like Magnesium if it’s called for.

    Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
